In today’s first reading, we hear Samuel respond eagerly, “Here I am!” each time the Lord calls him.  May we, too, be listening for the call of God in our lives and be ready to say like the psalmist, “Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.” (See 1 Samuel 3:4; Psalm 40)

Local news

Our 2009 Habitat for Humanity Apostles Build is Underway!

PBOC has once again partnered with Habitat for Humanity and other local churches to build a home for a needy family.  This past week construction began on our 2009 Apostles Build for the Denise Brown family.   The Brown children are Angelo (age 15) and Deandra (age 7).  Denise works for the AVX Corporation and has been there for 9 years.  Helping local church volunteers are college students who are in town for the next 2 weeks.  They are working on panelizing the frame at the Habitat office in the city of Georgetown. The panels are then trucked to the construction site, which is located outside the City of Georgetown, on Gresham Dive in the Choppee area of Georgetown County.  Through the generous support of our parish, a home will become a reality and blessing for the Brown family.  Special construction skills are not required to participate and construction leaders are available on site to assist and direct the volunteers.  If you are interested in helping, Wednesdays and Saturdays are reserved especially for church volunteers, although you are welcome any day Monday-Saturday.  Please call Doug Weiss (357-9299).  You may also contact Habitat: Coordinator of Volunteers on 546-5685 ext 9; or the Construction Hotline on 546-5685 ext 5.

AARP SAFE DRIVING COURSE sponsored by PBOC Church, Knights of Columbus and Conway National Bank will be given at Founders Hall on Monday & Tuesday (February 2nd & 3rd) from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  Attendance is required for both days.  Class is limited, so advance registration is required.  Normal fees are $12.00 for AARP members and $14.00 for non-members.  Our co-sponsor, Conway National Bank, will pay a $5.00 portion of the course fee, so your actual cost is $7.00 or $9.00 per person.  Registration applications are available at the church office.  Completed applications with a check and copy of AARP member’s card may be returned to the church office, or mailed to: PBOC Parish Office, (Attn:  AARP), 1633 Waverly Road, Pawleys Island, SC 29585.

14TH Annual LARCUM Prayer Service (Lutheran, Anglican, Roman Catholic, United Methodist) will be held Sunday, January 25, 2009, at 3:30 PM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 1529 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC.  No charge, all are welcome.  A reception will follow the liturgy.  For more information contact Melissa Walker at 803-345-7407.
