BISHOP’S ORDINATION

Our new bishop, Most Rev. Robert E. Guglielmone, will be ordained this Wednesday, March 25 at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.  Though the bishop would like to share this important event with all the faithful of South Carolina, the Cathedral is limited in its seating capacity.  Therefore, parishes will not receive invitation cards.

Larger venues were sought to accommodate more people, but nothing suitable was available on the ordination date.

The installation Mass will be broadcast over the Internet on the Diocese of Charleston’s Web site (www.Catholic-Doc.org) so people may watch it from their homes, schools, libraries, or parishes.  We hope you will join us in prayer for this blessed occasion as we welcome Bishop Guglielmone to South Carolina!

NOVENA FOR OUR NEW BISHOP

On Tuesday, March 17, we began a novena to St. John Vianney, Patron Saint of Priests, as a spiritual gift from our parish to Bishop-elect Guglielmone. The novena will end on March 25, the date of his ordination. Copies are available at the back of church.

WE NEED DANCE CHAPERONS!

The students of PBOC are hosting a retreat and dance fundraiser for Fr. Pat’s Lunch Kitchen on Friday, March 27th and we need people willing to help chaperon our dance from 7:30-10:30 PM in Founders Hall.

Please call Kate 237-3428 x.3 if you are able to help!

A group of parishioners have been busy making quilt tops for our wounded heroes, hospitalized in Veteran’s hospitals, from wounds received in Afghanistan and Iraq.

We have a supply of donated quilting fabric available to any quilter, or anyone interested in learning to quilt.  If you would be interested in helping with this ministry of gratitude to our servicemen and women, please join us in Founders Hall on Tuesday, March 24th at 10:00 AM.  A local quilt expert and I will put together enough fabric for a 50” x 60” top and give you an easy suggested pattern.  Any questions please call:  Helen Faulstich 843-235-2713 or email: helheljer@yahoo.com.

DIOCESAN NEWS

ASK A PRIEST

What about…?  Why does the Church…?  I wish I could go to Communion but…  It really hurt me when Father So-and-So told my daughter such-and-such 20 years ago and we haven’t been to church since… So many people have so many questions, doubts, fears, misunderstandings, old wounds…  More often than we may realize, a chance to talk about the matter can lead to a surprisingly satisfactory resolution and the path home to the Catholic Church for hurting people.  As an evangelization outreach, St. James of Conway’s Parish Pastoral Council is sponsoring a two-night phone-in “Ask a Priest” outreach.  Anyone can anonymously call and speak with a priest about whatever is on their mind. This is being done especially as an outreach to Catholics or inactive Catholics, but of course all callers will be welcomed.  Do you—or someone you know—have issues with the Catholic Church?  Spread the news of this invitation to ASK A PRIEST.

                            Sunday, March 22 – 4:00 to 7:00 PM

                            Monday, March 23 – 6:00 to 8:00 PM

During these hours, phone the following numbers to ASK A PRIEST:  843-347-1212 OR 843-347-5276.

LAY (3rd ORDER) CARMELITE INFORMATIONAL MEETING

Learn how great Carmelite Saints “walked in love’ with the Blessed Mother as their guide.  If you are over 18, a Catholic in good standing, desire a deeper contemplative prayer life, and have a special place in your heart for the Blessed Mother, we welcome you to our Informational Meeting on March 26th at Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish Center at 7:00 PM.  Any questions contact Joyce at 843-390-1298.

LOCAL NEWS

The 2009 LARCUM (Lutheran, Anglican, Roman Catholic, United Methodist) Bishop’s Dialogue, “Moving Beyond Isolation, Embracing the Ecumenical Vision” will be held at Camp St. Christopher Conference Center on Seabrook Island on Thursday, April 23 and Friday, April 24, 2009.  The guest speaker is Br. Jeffrey Gros, FSC, Distinguished Professor of Ecumenical and Historical Theology at Memphis Theological Seminary and former Director of Faith and Order for the National Council of Churches.  Deadline to register is April 3.  For further information contact Missie Walker in the ecumenical office at (803) 345-7407.

Next weekend, representatives of the Christian Catholic Families of Bethlehem will be outside church after Masses selling Crucifixes, religious art work, and rosaries – all made of olive wood which is native to Israel and Bethlehem.  Since Tourism has greatly depleted, Christian families in the holy land, who depend on tourists, have been greatly affected.  Sale of these goods will help them very much and also give you the opportunity to have “something’ authentic from the holy land.  Please browse and buy some articles.  It is for a good cause and also a help to your personal devotion. Pray With Us…

Forgive me my sins, O Lord. Forgive me my sins:

the sins of my youth, the sins of my age, the sins

of my spirit, my sins of omission, the sins I

remember, the sins I have concealed for

so long and which are now hidden from

my memory.  Forgive me all my sins,

O Lord.   Amen.
