Your donation of $25 for each intention can be placed in the flower envelope located to the right of the calendar.  Please drop your envelope in the collection basket or turn in at the office.  Please call the office if you would like one of these dates.

AID TO OUR MILITARY:  Your response in donating for our military care packages is appreciated.  Our troops like to receive Pringles, Chex Mix, chips, granola bars, beef jerky, Cheeto’s, peanuts, cheese and peanut-butter cracker packs, etc., which can be dropped off at the parish office in a bag/s marked “Military”.  Our K of C members have generously mailed these packages.  Your prayers are requested for our military and their safe return.    – John Glinka

The annual collection for Catholic Charities will be taken up next weekend, May 9-10.  Please be generous.

Outreach

Fr. Pat’s Lunch Kitchen continues to serve on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with people coming together to enjoy sharing meals and friendship.  Last Wednesday we served 79 people Vegetable Soup, Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce, Chicken Cacciatore, Smoked Sausage and Meatballs, Sautéed Green Beans with onion, tomato & spices, Parmesan & Fresh Mozzarella Cheese, Rolls, Assorted Desserts, Grape Juice and Iced Tea.  On Thursday we served 60 people Vegetable Soup, Grilled Beef Burgers on Buns, Potato Chips, Assorted Desserts Grape Juice and Sweet Tea. We thank everyone who helps to make these meals a pleasure for all who come.

 

Something New! On May 9th (the Saturday before Mother’s Day) Father Pat’s Kitchen will be serving its first Saturday Morning Breakfast from 9:00 to 11:00 AM.

 

Chefs Needed for Saturdays - To continue Fr. Pat’s Saturday Morning Breakfast Program for the needy in our community, we are looking for a few good chefs and chef’s helpers to volunteer their time and talents one Saturday morning every six weeks from 7:30 to 10:00 AM (approx.). The menus are set, and are basic breakfast fare.  Call us even if you can only offer your services once a year – or if you are just starting out in the culinary arena, this would be a great place to get experience. It is that time again for us to begin to schedule liturgical ministers for the next quarter.  Please let your chairpersons know by May 15th of any dates you will be away in July, August and September.  You can do this by going to http://pbocchurch.com/schedule.asp and filling out the form.  Your information will automatically go to all of your chairpersons.  Chairpersons can pick up blank schedules in the office.

 

MINISTRY OF CARE

Let us know of your loved one confined to home, in the hospital or recovering from surgery and now home.  Our ministry is to unite the sick and recovering followers of Christ with the Body of Christ, they are not ALONE.  Please call the parish office at 237-3428, Christine at 237-2096, or Anne at 237-0401.

The Rosary for the unborn will be prayed at the Monument for the Unborn after the 10:30 AM Mass this Sunday (and on every first Sunday of the month.)

 

TEAM TRIVIA NIGHTFRIDAY, MAY 29th

Join us for team trivia!  Bring a team or we will assign you to one ~ ALL ARE WELCOME! Trivia categories range from sports, history, geography, science, pop culture, music, television, movies, and more.  Cost is $10 entry fee per person plus food order.  Drinks (alcoholic or not) will be available, cash only.  Plan to join us for this fun evening – prizes for the top 3 teams! Entry forms are available in the church narthex.  Proceeds to benefit Birthright of Georgetown.

GOOD GRIEF – Bereavement Support Group

We have a new name for our group – ”Good Grief” – in the spirit of giving uplifting support to men & women who are dealing with issues of grief and loss – any loss: of a loved one, family member, job or relationship.  All are welcome to attend our next meeting on Tuesday, May 19th at 10:30 AM in the PLC, Room 2.  We will have a guest speaker: Rev. Gloria Barr Ford, an author and poet from Georgetown.  Reception follows meeting. If you would like to attend, or for more information, please contact Pat David at 650-2244.

Women’s club

 

Take 2 Consignment Store has graciously offered to help the Women's Club in our fundraising efforts. If you have any household items you no longer need and would like to donate to the Women's Club through Take 2, please contact Barbara Call @ 237-4554.  Please do not take them directly to Take 2.

 

A Summary of the Women's Club Board's Recommendations for June 2009 Grants has been mailed to each dues-paying Women's Club member. Any member who did not receive this mailing should contact Judy Zachar, 235-7552. Please review this document before the May 7 General Membership Meeting. If there are any questions, please contact Judy Zachar or the Women's Club Officers. Dues-paying members present at the May 7 meeting will vote on these recommendations.  The Grants are given to community organizations in addition to the Women's Club Parish Donation and the Women's Club $1500 Scholarship to a graduating high school senior from the parish.

 

Next General Meeting will be held on May 7. Please remember to bring your Pot Luck dish (4-6 servings) to share.

 

The canceled Gullah Basket class is currently rescheduled for May 12, if anyone would like to sign up for that date.  However, please watch the bulletin just in case the date has to be changed again.

 

The 2009 Installation and Grants Presentation Luncheon will be held at High Hammock, in the Hammock Shops, Thursday, June 4 @ 11:00 a.m.  The cost is $18.00, which includes a Chicken breast stuffed with a Mozzarella Stuffing, with a very light tomato coulis, fresh vegetables, homemade bread, cold beverages, hot beverages, and Key Lime Pie on Pecan Sandies crust for dessert.  Tickets are available by sending a check made out to PBOC Women's Club and a self-addressed, stamped envelope, to Marcia Boyer, 864 Pinehurst Lane, 90-D, PI, SC 29585; they will also be available at the May general meeting. Next Sunday, May 10th, we are honoring all the Mothers and wives at our K of C Mothers Day Breakfast.   (There is no charge for the moms and the wives.)  This is our way to say thanks to all the mothers and wives of the parish. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY LADIES !!  Breakfast will be served from 9 AM to 11 AM at the PLC.

 

 Remember! Coming up on Saturday, June 20, 6:00 PM is the K of C Wine Tasting and Steak Dinner at the PLC.  Tickets are moving fast - they are $ 20.00 per person.  Don't miss out on this fabulous event.  If you haven't received tickets in the mail, stop by the parish office to purchase tickets.

 

May is a busy month for our council.  At our business meeting on May 7 it will be time to nominate our new officers for the coming fraternal year.  Knights do not miss this important meeting. We also will have a First Degree ceremony on May 7.

Please be at Founders Hall by 6:00 PM - ceremony to begin promptly at 6:15 PM.

VIRTUS TRAINING SESSION OFFERED

Any adults working with children and/or vulnerable adults and have not had the VIRTUS Training, there is a class being offered on Wednesday, May 20, 6:30 – 9:30 PM at St. Michael’s School in the Science Lab.  Please register online at www.virtus.org.  If you attend, please give a copy of your certificate to the PBOC church office.

 

LOCAL NEWS

 

Georgetown High School Gospel Choir Revival will be held the week of May 4-8 at the high school.  Rev. Jason Coakley will be the Evangelist for the week. This is an outstanding group of young people who chose to be active in an organization where they can spiritually nurture their minds and inspire others. Precious Blood parishioners are invited to attend the revival on Tuesday evening, May 5th at 7:30 PM. Contributions from the community are welcome to support their efforts for a North Eastern Concert Tour.
