During this time, we celebrate the independence of our country.  We would do well to echo the psalmist, saying, “Our eyes are fixed on the Lord, pleading for His mercy.”  May we always recognize and use wisely the gifts of freedom and abundance He has showered upon us.

Thank you for your generosity in last week’s Peter’s Pence Collection.  Because of you, Pope Benedict XVI will be able to help millions of people around the world quickly and effetively.  In 2007, the United States was responsible for almost one-third of worldwide proceeds for this collection.  Your important contributions are truly helping the Holy Father to make a difference for those most in need.

Special Collection next week:

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

There continues to be much talk and formal discussion concerning universal health care, and each time we see a new administration in Washington the issue moves to”center stage.”  As Catholics, we want to see everyone enjoy the fruits of the wonderful health care available in our country.

I write to you at this time, however, to address the issue of the care of our infirm priests.  St. Joseph’s Residence for retired priests is operating thanks to your continued generosity, and this is but one way (nonetheless an important way) we care for our our infirm priests.  While Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid help, there are STILL substantial COSTS to the diocese.

Please be generous to our collection for Infirm Priests on July 12.  These priests have spent their lives in caring for others.

                      In The Lord’s Peace,

                      Most Reverend Robert E. Guglielmone

                      Bishop of Charleston

THE KNIGHTS SUNDAY NEWS

READ ALL ABOUT IT !!!!!

The fourth corner of the Knight’s emblem represents Patriotism.  The lesson of the Fourth Degree, the highest level of the membership in the Knights, is that Knights act for the good of their country.  They are dedicated to promoting patriotism, i.e. love of God and country, illuminated by Catholic faith.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July!
