StewardshipGraphic

In the second reading today, St. James has harsh words for those who do not put their faith into action.  May we be such good stewards of God’s giffts to us that we can never be accused of having “faith that does nothing in practice.”

The RCIA is marked by classes on the beliefs and practices of the Catholic Church, by individual counseling, and by special liturgical rites by which the person electing to join the Church is received by the parish community and the wider Church.  The RCIA is conducted under the guidance and direction of the Diocese of South Carolina and our pastor, Father Pat Stenson.

LOCAL NEWS

Meet the Author!  A new historical novel, The Red Priest’s Annina, written by local author, former St. Michael’s Catholic School teacher, and PBOC parishioner, Sarah Bruce Kelly, will be available for purchase after every Mass on September 19th & 20th.   The book tells the fascinating story of Antonio Vivaldi’s most famous student, Annina Giro, and her struggle to break into and survive the treacherous, cut-throat world of Venetian opera in the 18th Century.  Vivaldi, nicknamed the ‘Red Priest” for his fiery red hair, was also well-known during his lifetime as an opera impresario and master teacher. The author will personally sign your copy, and a generous portion of each purchase will be donated to PBOC.

1st Annual “Tee Off Fore A Cause” – at The Reserve Club

A group of local residents (including PBOC parishioners Fred Kane, Si Bula, Bob Pelletier and Ron Breznicky) have banded together to raise money to support our returning wounded soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan. “Tee Off Fore A Cause, Inc.” was formed in January 2009 to raise funds for the Wounded Warriors Project. The tournament will be held on Monday, October 5 with 8:30 AM Registration and 9:30 Shot Gun Tee-Off Time.  The cost is $125 per player, which will cover golf, cart, continental breakfast, gift bag, BBQ lunch and awards.  For more info, look for packets in the back of church, or contact Fred Kane at fredkane@chicora.net.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY & OUTBACK RESTAURANT - Please join Habitat and Outback Restaurant on Thursday, October 8th for our first annual “Habitat/Outback Fundraiser”.  It will be held at the Pawleys Island Community Church from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM.  The meals are steak, chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans, salad and bread – all for $13 per meal.  Purchases will be made from the Outback traveling kitchen.  Dinners will be sold in advance and/or you can buy dinners on-site the day of the event.  If you order five or more meals, delivery will be free.  If you are interested in ordering meals and purchasing tickets in advance, please call the Habitat office at 843-546-5685, ext. 4 or 6.  The proceeds will go towards our next build in Andrews, “Hank’s House.”  This house will be built in memory of Hank Van Vlake, an Andrews local and Habitat Volunteer who tragically lost his life this summer in a car accident.  Please call Habitat with any questions, or to volunteer the day of the vent.
