StewardshipGraphicThe phrase in today’s psalm, “May you see your children’s children,” is really a prayer for a long life.  The good steward knows that every day is a gift from God, to be lived with joy and thanksgiving.  “May the Lord bless us all in the days of our lives!”  (See Psalm 128)

RESPECT LIFE

October is Respect Life Month.  Given the number of threats against the precious gift of Life, we sometimes wonder what we can do for the cause of human life. The following is a list of activities that we all can do.  Don’t underestimate the power of your prayers, penance, witness and material support for new mothers:

·   This year, we are participating in the diocesan program “Forty Days for Life.” Recognizing that hearts need to be changed, our Bishop has exhorted us to prayer and penance to stem the disrespect for human life. Your individual prayer and sacrifices are most important. A box has been placed in the side chapel to record your Rosaries prayed for life.

·   Respect Life Sunday is October 4, 2009.  At all the Masses, there will be reflections on the necessity of respect for human life and intercessions for those responsible for protecting human life.

·   After Masses on October 3 and 4, Birthright volunteers will pass out baby bottles to be used as piggy banks during the month of October. The purpose is to provide support for the local Birthright crisis pregnancy center.

·   The Rosary for the Unborn will be prayed at the   Monument to the Unborn after the 10:30 AM Mass.

·   From 2:30 to 3:30 pm on Sunday, October 4, the annual “Life Chain” will be held in Georgetown. Participants stand in silent witness to the sanctity of human life and pray for the victims of abortion and our nation.

“Life is the first good received from God and is fundamental to all others; to guarantee the right to life for all and in an equal manner for all is the duty upon which the future of humanity depends.” Pope Benedict XVI
