Outreach

Outreach Ministries at Precious Blood of Christ parish includes fourteen ministries whose social mission is characterized by a love for the poor and vulnerable, ensuring that people have the basic human necessities of life. We are called to continue Christ’s mission of compassionate love, service, and justice in our community.

The Outreach Ministries covers local issues such as adult literacy, social services, and providing for those in need so to address the corporal works of mercy where possible.

To “feed the hungry and give drink to the thirsty,” we have established Father Pat’s Lunch Kitchen, which provides a hot meal every Wednesday and a soup/sandwich lunch every Thursday and breakfast every Saturday at Founder’s Hall.

Precious Deliveries Holiday Food Distribution oversees the acquisition and distribution of food to needy families in Pawleys Island at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Meals on Wheels provides meals to the elderly and disabled people in the community.

Adult Learning Coaches assists those who wish to improve their reading and writing skills. Another education-related committee involves volunteering at Teach My People, an after-school and summer enrichment program which serves “at-risk” students and their families.

Adult Learning Coaches, located in the Georgetown Library, is a trained volunteer literacy project offering free and immediate access to basic reading, writing, math, and English as a Second Language instruction to learners over 18 years old. Experienced Intake Personnel are available each Wednesday to meet drop-in students to evaluate their skills and create a plan of instruction. The student is then paired with a Learning Coach; together with the student and Coach schedule one on one sessions to work on the instructional plans using the materials and resources of the library.

To “shelter the homeless,” we have a liaison with Habitat For Humanity

The Prison Ministry provides volunteers to the Georgetown County Detention Center to assist the Sheriff’s office with inmate re-entry training.

The Respect Life ministry promotes the dignity of human life through prayer, communication, and education. They provide material support for women facing unplanned pregnancies through organizations such as Birthright of Georgetown and Catholic Charities

The Ecumenical Issues ministry plans community-wide programs and services with the other churches in Pawleys Island.

The Legislative Issues ministry reviews all federal, state and/or local legislation for possible action and informs the community about the impact of such legislation.

The Human Resources ministry helps with organizational and personal development for all committees and provides assistance for employment concerns in the community.

The Local Transportation Issues ministry provides rides for parishioners without other means of attending services or meeting doctor appointments.

The Social Services ministry evaluates all inquiries for assistance from the community and authorizes parish resources to pay for emergency needs as required.

Other ministries not mentioned: Baskervill Food Pantry; PBOC Gift Shop; Christmas Angel Tree Project (in coordination with the Precious Meals Christmas Food Distribution); Elder Issues; and the Fresh Express Farmer’s Market.
